Chapin Town Hall

Mayor's Message

Greetings,

During the Town’s Planning Commission meeting, held on Tuesday, we introduced our new Director of Planning and Zoning, Nathan Powell.  In his new role, Mr. Powell will be responsible for ensuring a professional and timely review of proposed construction and development plans.  He will be instrumental in planning for future growth and, if necessary, he will provide valuable input into any potential ordinance development. As Director, he will work closely with the Planning Commission and the Architectural Review Board to promote public health, safety, appearance, and the general welfare of the community.
Nathan Powell

The position has been vacate since January of this year and one team member in particular has carried the most burden. Julie Hammond has been doing a phenomenal job temporarily working in the position until a full time hire could be identified. I would like to express my gratitude to Julie for a job well done and my admiration for her professionalism and sacrifice during this time. We are very grateful to have Mr. Powell join the team and we look forward to working with him in future weeks. Mr. Powell will officially join the Town of Chapin as an employee on May 30.

Yesterday as Town employees and elected officials we took time to recognize and honor those brave men and women that have fought for our country’s freedom and made the ultimate sacrifice. With Memorial Day around the corner we gathered for a pot luck style lunch. It was a great time for fellowship and most importantly remembrance. Town hall will host the American Legion for their annual Memorial Day ceremony and reception. The event will starting promptly at 10:00 am and is open to the public. It is a great way to pay tribute to our fallen heroes.

Memorial Day weekend marks the beginning of summer where many citizens like to take advantage of the warm weather and all that Lake Murray has to offer. I encourage our community to enjoy this time with family and friends but to do so safely.  Please be vigilant in your efforts to reduce accidents and exercise good decision making. More than just an excuse to have a BBQ, this special day is set aside to remember those that have provided selfless service and sacrificed their lives so that we may enjoy our many freedoms.

Please honor their memory this weekend and have a safe and enjoyable holiday.

Best Regards,

Mayor David Knight

The Chapin Downtown Farmer’s Market will be held Saturday, June 2 from 9:30 am-1:00 pm on Clark Street. The event offers a unique experience to interact with local farmers and artisans. Based on vendor feedback and discussion with local merchants, we decided to alter the hours of operation for the June 2nd market. The new hours will allow for food trucks and a better window of opportunity for our citizens to attend. With even more vendors than last month you won't be disappointed.
