Thomas W Griffin (2)

Chapin is my Hometown, and I am extremely honored to have to opportunity to give back to the Town that made me who I am today.  I live in Chapin with my wife and our two boys.  I was appointed the Chief of Police of the Chapin Police Department in 2021.  During that time, I have successfully managed departmental budgets, personnel, and equipment. I have been given the opportunity to be a leader during my time as a Police Officer and a United States Marine, with a demonstrated history of working within both the military and law enforcement field.

Throughout my 15 years in law enforcement, I have received countless hours of training and served in several different capacities.  I have served as a Patrol Supervisor, Major Crimes Detective, Crisis Negotiator, FTO Manager, Training Officer, and received various Instructor Certifications. I am specifically skilled in Major Crime Investigations, Crisis Negotiations, Firearms Handling, Driving Instructor, Public Safety, Emergency Management, Patrol Function, and Leadership.  I am also a graduate of the FBI National Command Course, Session #5.

Prior to my law enforcement career, I was Honorably Discharged from the United States Marine Corps at the rank of Sergeant (E-5). During my military service I was deployed to multiple locations most notably to Iraq in 2003, ultimately advancing to Baghdad during Operation Iraqi Freedom. I received the following awards during my military service, Navy Achievement Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Presidential Unit Citation, Navy Meritorious Unit Citation, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Medal, Operation Iraqi Freedom Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal, and Sea Service Deployment Ribbon.

I am excited about the opportunity to continue to lead, and be led by others, throughout my law enforcement career. The camaraderie seen and experienced throughout both the military and law enforcement is like no other, and I am extremely thankful to have served beside so many great men and women. I am dedicated to this profession and to the service of others, and excited for the continued opportunity to lead this department, Semper Fidelis.
